To be fair I work at the company that makes the shearhog, AB Tools, but I wanted to note that the cutter pictured is not the SH100. The SH100 is single flute with a 3/4" shank. Feb 15, 2009· A 4" face mill will get bogged down at high RPM and a deep cut while a 5" will do fine with a lower speed range and lighter cut. Softer material is always easier. A good all around face mill for this machine is a 3" with standard inserts or a 4" with high shear inserts. All my small knee mills have 1", 2", 3" and 4" face mills set up on R8 shanks.

Mine unfortunately met an early death (can likely be repaired, but I haven''t found the time) when an insert screw snapped and the insert damage the pocket/face of the shear hog itself. I''d probably ship it to someone for the value of my spare inserts if they were interested.

I think the face mill is supposed to touch the arbor on the the surfaces (see red arrows) indicated, but at the current time the facemill touches on the keys.
